"My first semester of college I focused on my grades, which led me to basically spend all of my time in either the library or my dorm room. When I finally did get the grades I wanted at the end of the semester, I realized I hadn't met anyone new, and I felt like I missed part of the reason I came to college. I came to college to accomplish academic goals, but I also came to meet new people and push myself out of my comfort zone. So, when the next semester came around I decided I go outside of my comfort zone and try to join a spirit group. Originally I was really anxious and scared I wouldn't be accepted, but after coming to two Royals info sessions, I felt comfortable and knew these were the people I wanted to share my remaining time in college with. Royals helped me find an awesome community of people on a very big campus.
To whoever is considering joining royals, I would recommend that you go to an info session and see if our spirit group is a good fit for you. You cannot do college alone, and through joining royals you won't have to. This upcoming year I'm excited to take on the opportunity and challenge of being the first DKR Chair; who is responsible for managing our main philanthropy event, Dodging for DKR. My favorite royals event is probably our formals at the end of each semester, because it's a time where we get together and just take a breather. College is hard and it will kick you in the butt, so it's nice to get together and know you're not alone in the struggle while wearing fancy clothes, dancing, and eating good food."
